Activists in Germany stormed Berlin Brandenburg Airport on Thursday and taped themselves to the tarmac to protest government inaction on climate change.

The activists were part of a climate activism group The Letzte generation (Last Generation) and said the stunt was staged to protest the greenhouse gas emissions caused by air travel.

“The affluent one percent of the population is responsible for about half of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with flying,” Last Generation said in a public statement.

Protesters also called on the German government to invest in rail travel.

The press secretary of airport said that the group, which included a 70-year-old man, entered without authorization through two separate points on the asphalt.

Approximately 13 flights were forced to divert or reroute.

This year, climate protesters have targeted paintings by Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet and Leonardo da Vinci. Two climate protesters were thrown tomato soup in Van Gogh’s paintingtwo others were molding a piece of Monet with a potato, and the other was throwing a cake at the Mona Lisa.

Protesters too spilled onto the freeways to stop the movement in the name of reducing the use of fossil fuels and spilled milk on store floors to fight for environmental justice.

On October 23, activists of the “Last Generation” threw mashed potatoes at a Monet painting worth 110 million dollars which was in the Potsdam Museum.

The group said they threw mashed potatoes into the painting to draw attention to the dangers of fossil fuels.
