The NJ PBS digital documentary series “21” examines a simple question: Does where you live in the state affect your life? The series follows one person in each of New Jersey’s 21 counties and examines the social determinants that affect that person’s life.

In this special edition, NJ Spotlight News with Brianna Vannozzi will share inspiring stories from Atlantic, Passaic, Ocean and Essex counties.

After years of operating her popular restaurant and bakery, Cookie Thiel purchased an 80-acre farm in Atlantic County and dedicated herself to healing the land through regenerative techniques. Her team empowers disadvantaged populations in surrounding food deserts to work, learn and grow on Garden State land.

Rashajon Johnson’s nonprofit organization, Hope With N, supports his Passaic County community through events that provide food, clothing and other resources to those in need.

Life changed instantly for Christian Kane’s family after their son suffered a traumatic brain injury aged just 19 months. Kane now works tirelessly to make her community of Ocean County more inclusive and accessible to people with disabilities.

In Essex County, Fallon Davis is a passionate educator who develops tools and resources to reimagine the next generation through the arts and sciences while empowering others in the community.
