KYIV, Ukraine – Ambassador of the USA to Ukraine Bridget Brink to a hot place.
Carrying out the biggest diplomatic assignment of her career, she finds herself in the middle of a war, with anti-aircraft fire coming at her from all sides.
Fox News caught up with her on a tour of Kiev’s main train station, which has now doubled as a huge charging and heating center for the city’s residents left without power amid a massive Russian rocket attack on the power grid. Millions were left out in the cold.
“It’s horrible, it’s dishonest,” she told Fox News. “What is happening, in our opinion, is war crimes.”
Brink’s specialty in her 25-year career has been Europe, where there has been much controversy about the “grey area”. For the ambassador, this one is black and white.
“It’s about freedom, about the fight between good and evil,” she said. “We consider it absolutely important that Russia faces a strategic defeat and that Ukraine prevails.”
In recent weeks, there have been a flurry of reports that Washington is trying to push Kyiv to at least talk with Moscow. Brink will not believe it.
“Ukrainians decide when and how they want to negotiate,” she told Fox News.

Prompted by the comments of politicians, there was also the opinion that how Republicans take control of the House of Representatives, there may be some reduction in aid to Ukraine. Brink remains positive.
“I felt complete and total support,” she commented, “not just from the president, obviously, but bipartisan members of Congress.” She noted that “accountability” will be a permanent feature of the disbursement of funds.

Despite the complexity of this nine-month war, Brink still believes that its outcome is quite simple.
“I think that Russia can stop this war tomorrow,” she concluded. “Russia can stop the war and will withdraw his troops, and the war will end.”
It’s easier said than done, but the top American diplomat in Kiev is trying.
