The New Jersey Commission on Science, Innovation and Technology (CSIT) has announced the expansion of ResearchwithNJ.com to provide local, national and international innovation communities with information about ground-breaking research being conducted at five New Jersey universities – Montclair State University, the Institute of New- Jersey Technology Princeton University, Rowan University and Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
The commission also announced that it has taken over management of the portal from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) and the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE) due to its strong ties to both the startup and academic communities. to the NJEDA press release.
The free online portal, available at www.researchwithnj.com, offers more than 250,000 research results that commercial businesses, from startups to global corporations, can use to grow.
Topics range across a wide range of disciplines, such as biology, chemistry, mathematics, psychology, sociology, and more. According to a press release, the recently expanded Research with NJ portal now features topic-specific search capabilities that correspond to New Jersey’s strategic industry sectors through the site’s “strategic pillars” tabs.
Governor Phil Murphy announced the launch of Research with NJ in the summer of 2018, at the same time he announced the creation of CSIT. Research from New Jersey was originally developed as a joint effort between NJEDA and OSHE to strengthen ties between New Jersey’s research universities and industry, according to a news release.
Given CSIT’s goal of expanding early-stage partnerships between companies, entrepreneurs and universities, the commission has taken over management of the portal and will work closely with participating universities to ensure continued support and growth of the online site, according to a press release.
“Our close ties to both the startup community and many of the state’s academic institutions made CSIT a natural fit to lead research in New Jersey,” said CSIT Executive Director Judith Sheft.
“We expect that the expansion of research from New Jersey, combined with our continued efforts to expand our reach to new companies and academic professionals, will help strengthen the ties between New Jersey’s research universities and industry,” Scheft said.
Research from New Jersey highlights the Garden State’s leading research experts and facilities, increasing the visibility of research findings. It also increases opportunities for users to form partnerships and create new innovative businesses and products based on the latest scientific and technological breakthroughs, according to a press release.
Businesses can access relevant knowledge areas, facilitating technology transfer to the market. This includes information about subject matter experts, facilities, publications, intellectual property, news and events.
According to a press release, investors considering investing in a startup can also use Research with NJ to learn about research done by company members before investing.
To date, the Research with NJ platform has generated nearly 268,000 results from all participating universities, including more than 4,500 individual profiles, more than 150 core institutions, and more than 6,200 grants/projects.

The New Jersey studies were developed under the guidance of an advisory board comprised of participating research universities and industry representatives from NJEDA, OSHE, the New Jersey Business and Industry Association, Choose New Jersey, BioNJ, the Health Institute of New Jersey, the Research and New Jersey Development Council and TechUnited.
The advisory board provides oversight and guidance to ensure the sustainability and success of the portal, according to a press release.
