Police in the suburbs City of Chicago on Wednesday saved a child who was drowning in an icy pond.
A 9-year-old boy fell into an icy pond around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday while trying to retrieve a soccer ball, according to Aurora Police Dept. When the law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, they saw that an adult woman had also gone into the pond to save the child from drowning.
Officers entered the pond, rescued the woman and child and brought them back to land, officials said in a Facebook post.
After the incident, a 9-year-old child was sent to a local hospital with minor injuries, in addition to two police officers who rescued the child in the pond.

All people have been discharged from district hospitals.
Body camera video released by the police department shows officers using a water rescue kit to bring the child and adult back to land, while two officers went into the water.

In an interview released by the police department, the drowning man’s mother said she thought her “son wouldn’t be here” when she saw he is drowning.
