State Sen. Joseph Pennacchio (R-Montville) and Assemblymen Jay Webber (R-Morris Plains) and Brian Bergen (R-Danville) have the support of one of Morris County’s most popular Republican vote-getters, Sheriff James Gannon.

Gannon was re-elected to a third term unopposed earlier this month.

Three incumbents from the 26th Legislative District have delayed endorsements from Republican leaders in response to a possible primary from former Rep. Betty Lou DeCross (R-Parsippany) and others.

In 2021, DeCross lost the GOP primary to Christian Baranco (R-Jefferson), but legislative redistricting put him in the 25th seat and Bergen was moved to the 26th.

Pennacchio, Weber and Bergen have already received petition signatures from more than 80% of the Morris County Republican County Committee as they prepare for next year’s convention. They were also endorsed by Passaic County Republican Party Chairman Peter Murphy.

“I have so much respect for Sheriff Gannon,” Bergen said. “His support means everything to me. I look forward to continuing to work side-by-side with him as a steadfast advocate for our law enforcement officers.”
