NEW YORK (WABC) – A new study shows that mutations of COVID-19 have been found in the rat population of New York.

In a report by scientists from the University of Missouri and the US Department of Agriculture, the virus was detected in rats. The report also states that rats can carry different variants of COVID-19.

Experts studied 80 Norway rats in Brooklyn and found that about 16% of them have antibodies to the coronavirus.

Officials are concerned that the mutation could jump from rats to humans because it’s clear the virus has already jumped from humans to animals.
