MINNEAPOLIS- Following a challenging basketball season for Rutgers, the team found some stability off the court as veteran guard Jeremiah Williams and freshmen Gavin Griffiths and Jamichael Davis expressed their intentions to remain with the program for the anticipated 2024-25 season.
The news, revealed in the locker room after the Scarlet Knights’ final game of the season, provides a sense of continuity amidst what is expected to be a tumultuous offseason.
With the team currently holding 15 scholarships for next season, exceeding the 13-scholarship limit, there will inevitably be changes. Coach Steve Pikiell acknowledged the need for some roster adjustments, recognizing that this offseason could see significant player movement across college basketball.
Meanwhile, there are still decisions pending for other key Rutgers players.
Starting forward Mawot Mag, who has one more year of eligibility, remains focused on the present, stating that he hasn’t yet considered his future plans. However, it’s likely that Mag will conclude his college career elsewhere, given his recent injury setbacks and the uncertainty surrounding his role.
Despite speculation about Mag’s potential transfer, he vehemently denied such claims, emphasizing his commitment to returning to full strength.
As for starting center Cliff Omoruyi, he has yet to make a decision about his future, indicating that he’s still weighing his options. While signs suggest he may explore opportunities outside of Rutgers, nothing has been confirmed.
Amidst the uncertainty, the Scarlet Knights find comfort in the commitment of Williams, Griffiths, and Davis, who provide a solid foundation for the upcoming season.
