SPRINGFIELD GARDENS, Queens (WABC) — A 22-year-old family member of three Queens homicide victims has been charged in their deaths.
Police say Jabari Burrell detailed how he killed his relatives before stealing their 2004 Toyota Sienna and fleeing to Virginia.
When Burrell was allegedly covered in blood Law enforcement agencies in Virginia took him into custody for driving a stolen car. While in custody, he waved his Miranda rights, police said.
On the morning of November 18, a paramedic found 65-year-old Hyacinth Brown-Johnson, her daughter Latoya Gordon, 47, and her bedridden stepdaughter Patrice Johnson, 26, dead in their home.
Police say two victims were stabbed and one died of severe head trauma. A man who lived at a home located at 146-39 182nd Street in Jamaica was not injured.
The health care assistant’s brother, Ian Taylor, told Eyewitness News that the women were like family to them.
“My sister worked with this little girl for almost 10 years,” Taylor said. “Take care of that little girl. She couldn’t talk, couldn’t walk, nothing. And they’re such good people. I can’t believe this happened to them.”
Burello is charged with three counts of first-degree murder, three counts of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
Burrell is awaiting extradition to New York. The police have not yet revealed the motive for the murders.
