NEW YORK (WABC) – After the hustle and bustle of Black Friday and Cyber ​​Monday, Giving Tuesday is celebrated every Tuesday after Thanksgiving to encourage people to do good this holiday season.

Since its inception in 2012, the global movement has inspired hundreds of millions to donate, collaborate and celebrate generosity.

This year, WABC is proud to support the Disney Ultimate Toy Drive and Food Bank Project for New York City.

-For 75 years, Disney has supported Program of marine toys for children to bring comfort, happiness and inspiration to children and families in need during the holiday season.

-Disney’s collaboration with Toys for Tots began in 1947 when Walt Disney and his animators personally designed the original Toys for Tots train logo that is still in use today.

-Toys for Tots Since 1947, Marines and volunteers have distributed 627 million toys to more than 281 million children.

-Give a new toy without packaging online or in person at a Disney Store or Disney Store by December 12th.

-Food Bank for New York serves 800 food pantries, soup kitchens and partner campuses in the five boroughs.

-Nearly 1.6 million New Yorkers are food insecure, and food pantry lines have grown by 10% in the year since the pandemic began.

-FBNYC offers fresh food and has a pantry with shelf-stable items that they package and distribute.

-FBNYC provides more than 100,000 free meals each month through its soup kitchen, food pantry and senior citizen program.

More ways to help

Giving Tuesday Here are some ideas to consider for those who want to give their votes in kind, time or money this year:

-Share kindness with your neighbors.

-Virtually volunteer or share your talents

– Give your vote to a cause that is important to you

-Show gratitude to the health care providers, service providers, and other essential workers who make sure we still have the services we rely on, even at the risk of our own health.

-Discover a local fundraiser, community event, or coordinated event to join others in your area or with similar interests in giving back—they need your help.

– Give to your favorite cause or fundraiser to help those in need.

-Talk about giving and generosity using the hashtag #GivingTuesday
