Niece of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini calls on governments to cut ties with Tehran suppression of anti-regime speeches.
Farideh Maradhani, the ayatollah’s niece, asked the “conscious people of the world” to support the protesters and pressure their governments to distance themselves from Iran.
“I ask the honest people of the world to support us and I ask their governments not to respond with empty words and slogans, but with real actions and stop any communication with this mode” she said in a video posted by her brother after her arrest on November 23.
Moradhani’s family has long opposed Khomeini, and her arrest makes her the closest living relative of the supreme leader he imprisoned. Previously, she was arrested twice for active activities.

Anti-regime protests have been ongoing for three months following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini while being detained by police for allegedly violating the country’s hijab (headscarf) laws.

According to the Human Rights Agency, at least 451 people have died since the beginning of the protests, including 63 minors, and another 18,173 have been detained.
Last week, the Iranian courts began to issue death sentences to protestersciting arson and other similar crimes to justify the punishments.
