The body was found in the sea in Mexico, not far from where the couple from Arizona lived disappeared while kayaking on Thanksgiving Day, officials said Sunday.
The body was discovered near Playa Encanto in Puerto Peñasco, also known as Rocky Point, Mexico, While search and rescue teams combed the area for Cory Allen and his wife, Yeon-Soo Kim, the Civil Defense Service of Mexico Sonora said.
“Following an intensive search operation by air, sea and land, the Secretary of the Navy reports to Sonora Civil Defense the discovery of a body in Playa Encanto with characteristics similar to one of the two missing,” the agency tweeted Sunday afternoon. . .
Authorities did not immediately confirm the identity of the body.

Corey Allen and Yeon-Soo Kim of Flagstaff, Arizona, went missing while kayaking in Rocky Point, Mexico, on Thanksgiving Day, friends and authorities said.

Allen and Kim, of Flagstaff, were kayaking with their teenage daughter around 1 p.m. Thursday in Puerto Peñasco when the wind began to pick up, family and friends said. Allen helped their daughter back to shore and is believed to have returned for Kim before the couple went missing.
A body with characteristics similar to one of two missing Americans was found Sunday as a search and rescue operation continued for a missing couple in Arizona, authorities said.

“With the wind and that current, I know they must have known something was up,” Tavan McCombs, who coordinated the search, told AZ Family. “Even an experienced kayaker would have had trouble with what was going on that day.”

Flagstaff police said FOX10 Phoenix that he was aware of reports of the missing couple, but had no direct information about the search.

Mexican authorities tweeted Saturday that the search was ongoing for the two Americans, along with a photo of the pair.
Allen is a real estate agent and Kim is a professor of environmental economics at the School of Forestry in Northern Arizona University. The couple reportedly have two teenage children.
