PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – A man died Monday morning after being slaughtered near a South Philadelphia Wawa store, police said.

According to police, the stab wound occurred in the parking lot of a shop on Boulevard 1600, located on Boulevard S. Christopher Columbus.

Police say the victim, a 50-year-old man, went to Wawa just before 2am to buy food. He returned to his Kia SUV and ate food in the driver’s seat.

Customers then warned the guard around 4:25 that someone needed to check the person in the car.

Fire and ambulance crews smashed the driver’s rear window to gain access to the car, police said.

According to police, the man was stabbed in the abdomen and was taken to Jefferson University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are now using camera shops to get a better description of the possible suspect and motives.

There was an Uber sticker on the windshield of the car, but it is unclear whether the victim works in the company, investigators said.

The Wawa store is closed while police continue their investigation.
