Two months after a man was fatally struck by a car outside his home, police have charged his wife in connection with his death, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Chief of the John W. Fodor County Prosecutor’s Office and Hillsborough. City Police Chief Michael McMahon.
Amanda O’Keefe, 37, of Hillsborough, who turned herself in to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office on March 29, was charged with second-degree death by vehicle, according to a news release from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
On Saturday, Feb. 25, at approximately 2:28 a.m., Hillsboro Township Police and EMS were dispatched to a Hillsboro Township residence in response to a 911 call. According to a news release, the victim, 41-year-old Robert O’Keefe, was allegedly hit by a car driven by his wife, after which he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators and members of the Somerset County Collision Analysis Team (CART) responded to the scene to investigate, along with detectives from the Hillsborough Police Department. Investigators from the New Jersey Medical Examiner’s Office Northern Region also responded to the scene to investigate.
An investigation revealed that Amanda O’Keefe was over the legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit at the time of the incident, according to a news release.
O’Keefe was booked into the Somerset County Jail and later released on March 30 with conditions pending a future court appearance.
