The driver of a 2015 Toyota Corolla was killed when the car veered off the road, crashed into a tree and caught fire on River Road near Blue Spring Road shortly before 8 a.m. on March 13, the Montgomery City Police Department said.
Police, who responded to the call about the fire, found that the driver was trapped in the burning car due to severe damage to the car. According to police, the driver, who was the only passenger, died at the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Toyota was driving north on River Road toward Rocky Hill when it crossed double center lines to the south lane, veered off the road and crashed into a tree, police said.
River Road was closed for four hours while police investigated the crash.
Also responding were Montgomery Voluntary Fire Brigade № 1, Montgomery Voluntary Fire Company № 2 Montgomery Fire, Rocky Hill Fire Service, Montgomery Ambulance, paramedic from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Princeton Police Department.
The crash is being investigated by the Montgomery Police Department and the Clash Reconstruction Team of the Somerset County Attorney’s Office.
