Former Galloway Mayor Donald Purdy was elected chairman of the Republicans of the Atlantic County tonight, winning a snap election after 16-year-old incumbent Keith Davis resigned.

This was reported by WPG radio operator Harry Hurley Purdy won by acclamation.

“Keith has been a great working partner and I thank and congratulate him on 16 very successful years as our chairman,” Hurley said, as Purdy said.

Davis announced earlier this month that he would resign to help head a new super PAC aimed at helping elect more South Jersey Republicans.

Purdy, a close ally of newly elected state senator Vince Palistine (R-Egg-Harbor), was preparing to challenge Davis when the incumbent president announced his resignation.

GOP Vice President Rosalie Baker has served as chair for the past three days.
