NEW YORK (WABC) – Gas prices continue to rise to record levels as the war in Ukraine continues in conjunction with inflation.

Tuesday, the same day President Joe Biden announced a ban on imports of Russian oilThe AAA reported that the national average is $ 4.17 per gallon.

That’s $ 4.35 on Long Island and $ 4.27 in New Jersey, but the highest mark in New York, averaging $ 4.39, is ready to break the all-time high of $ 4.41.

So how can you lower the price of a pump? 7 On your side Nina Pineda has 7 tips.

Robert Sinclair of AAA says to save petrol, drivers should take their foot off the gas.

“We are in the territory of records,” he said. “Slow down, it saves gas.”

The faster you drive, the worse your gas consumption.

“There is a difference between the amount of fuel you burn at 65 mph on a level road than the amount of fuel you burn at 80 mph,” said John Fokker, editor of Car and Driver Magazine.

We asked both of them for top tips on saving gas, and they advised that the next change is the way you drive.

Move gently, slowly depressing the accelerator pedal.

“Drive as if there’s an egg between your foot and the gas,” Volker said.

Next, look at your wheels.

“Inflate the tires,” Sinclair said. “Make sure your tires are properly inflated, probably 30% of the energy produced by the engine is to overcome the rolling resistance of the tires.”

Many of us ride on inflated tires – think of it as if a flat bike is consuming much more energy.

Check what your tires should look like by opening the driver’s door and looking for a PSI sticker.

Further lighten the load. Remove heavy items such as shovels and sandbags from the machine to allow for emergency snow.

If you know you will be stopped at an easy or rail crossing for more than 60 seconds, turn off the engine.

If you go down the hill, try to get around the shore. And try to combine travel with business.

Also, many people are now returning to work, driving. Summarizing trips will save your wallet.

“For many people across the country, this is a very, very painful time,” Sinclair said. “I just hope it’s over soon.”
