MP Donald Payne Jr. (D-Newark) has received the approval of Lieutenant-Governor Sheila Oliver for his application for re-election in the 10th District of New Jersey.
The first black woman to serve as speaker of the assembly and win a seat in the state, Oliver lives in East Orange, which is part of the Payne district.

Oliver has praised Payne’s record since traveling to Congress in 2012.
“From enacting and signing legislation to make Medicaid cover the necessary cancer screenings, to creating thousands of quality middle-class jobs by writing a version of President Biden’s House Infrastructure Act, to ensuring the safety of our communities by providing federal resources for law enforcement, Congressman Payne said. “is a fighter and champion of Essex, Hudson and Union counties,” she said.
Payne faces the challenge at the primaries from the Democratic Party of Achilles Halfani, a sociology professor at Essex County College, and a tramp from Mountbank Iman Oakley.
Payne also has the approval of U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Corey Booker, Newark Mayor Ross Barack, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, East Orange Mayor Ted Green and Hillside Mayor Dalia Vertries. He also manages the union support table and has the support of former CWA director of state and progressive legend Hattie Rosenstein.
