There’s another chance to catch some of Mercer County’s best retirees on the basketball court.

The 21st annual CYO High School All-Star Basketball Games will be held Sunday at the CYO Center, located at 920 South Broad St.

The best boys and girls from Mercer County will take part in the games for girls at 13:00, followed by a game for boys at approximately 14:45

CYO will present the Rene Cister Award to Nicole Villalta Barrantes of Notre Dame and the Jack Krayan Award to Jeremy Ellis of Hamilton West. Pete Vasproy will receive the John Minsey Manchak Award for Referee of the Year.

Cister was a very talented player who had a keen sense of the game and always played tough, and Villalta Barrantes was such a player for the Irish.

Villata Barantes averaged more than 12 points per game, made 51 interceptions and had more than 100 rebounds in his senior season.

Like Keister, Krayan was an amazing player, not the tallest player who ever graced the court, but he played with passion and heart, and Alice fits everyone as a player with passion and heart.

Ellis, who was a great guy for the Hornets, has made 213 rebounds this season, and that’s almost 10 per game. Alice, 6 feet long and 6 feet long, did not allow many throws to reach the edge as she had 65 blocks.
