A landmark $ 641 million settlement with opioid manufacturers will fund expanded addiction treatment and harm reduction programs in New Jersey. Gov. Phil Murphy and Acting Attorney General Matt Platkin announced the plan in Eg Harbor Township on Friday. Half of the money will go to state programs, the rest – to district and local efforts.
The news is when the opioid epidemic continues to sweep the state. About 3,081 New Jersey residents died from opioid overdoses in 2021, more than in 2020 and 2019.
