MILLTOWN — The Acme supermarket and other stores at Ryders Lane Shopping Center will be demolished if the borough approves a plan to build 190 apartments on the site. Arisa Urban Renewal, the owner of the property, is seeking planning approval from the borough council to build 38 apartments, of which 38 will be affordable, on the site.
The plan calls for the construction of apartments in seven buildings with one, two and three bedrooms.
There are also plans to build a public building and a swimming pool.
The property, which has frontage on Ryders Lane, County Route 617 and the New Jersey Turnpike, totals 18.54 acres, of which approximately 8.96 acres are proposed for residential development.
Headquartered on Canal Street in Manhattan, Orissa also owns the property next door that houses Target.
According to documents on file with the city, the apartment complex will still be accessed from the stoplight on Ryders Lane across from Stratford Place.
Arisa Urban Renewal proposes to develop the property in accordance with the requirements of the affordable housing district.
