Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez issued the following statement following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday night:

“I was honored to be part of the welcoming committee that hosted President Vladimir Zelensky this evening for his speech at a joint session of Congress. President Zelensky rightly expressed hope and gave the American people a clear picture of the many ways that the assistance we provide to Ukraine continues to make a tangible difference on the battlefield and in the lives of millions of Ukrainians under attack.

“As it became clear this evening, the fate of Ukraine remains decisive, and the end of this brutal war is still out of reach. By supporting Ukraine as much as we want, we are sending a global message that a bellicose thug like Putin cannot get away with violently seizing another country’s territory and killing innocent civilians. FIf it didn’t, dictators and tyrants would do the same.

“President Zelensky’s inspiring words strengthened the bipartisan resolve of Congress against Putin. And as we prepare tonight to vote on the next tranche of aid to Ukraine, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will continue to work every day to ensure that there is a strong commitment to support the people of Ukraine every step of the way to victory.”
