Fears of an imminent Russian invasion of Ukraine were heightened on Friday by reports of Russian-backed groups in eastern Ukraine claiming they were attacked by Ukrainian forces, which Ukrainian leaders call a false flag that Russia will use to justify the invasion. President Joe Biden was scheduled to meet with NATO allies on Friday to discuss an international response to any Russian action.
Meanwhile, Congress is considering how to respond to Russia’s aggression, and senior New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez (D) is introducing a law that will lead to harsh economic sanctions in the event of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This week, Menendez also announced that he would introduce legislation aimed at strengthening US-Colombian relations.
