PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Two water main breaks flooded streets in Philadelphia’s Manayunk neighborhood Wednesday morning.
The break-ins happened in the 100 block of Conaro Street and nearby Manschen Street.
Residents awoke to a river flowing through their neighborhood.
Guillermo Laiva said he noticed a strange sound around 7:30 a.m
“We heard water rushing down the street,” he said.
The water came close to some businesses at the bottom of the hill.
The city sent in truckloads of salt to prevent the ice from forming, but with sub-zero temperatures, that was a difficult task.
Some roads had to be closed for safety reasons
A sidewalk was raised in the place of the water main break.
There was construction going on nearby, but there was no word on whether that work was related to the outage or if the cold weather was to blame.
