Lawrence TWP. – Lawrence High’s softball team has been in a sharp decline lately, but the Cardinals are sure to have chosen a great time to get out of it on Wednesday.
Competing in the first round of the Mercer County tournament, Lawrence defeated Ewing 12-2 in a quick four and a half innings.
Next Saturday, Lawrence, seeded seventh, will play in the quarterfinals against the third seed Steinert.
Lawrence (7-9) performed 12 hits, including two each by Kate Sangek, Emily Chu and Abby Duncan. Chu, Duncan and Alison McGuire doubled Ewing’s pitcher to Julia Smith. Freshman Emma Dobkin won with five strikers and six knockouts. Amoni Wertz (two hits) and Abby Singer doubled Ewing.

ROBINSVILLE – The Ravens (11-6) played in the MCT game and will play on Saturday in the next round at No. 4 in Allentown. Maddie Manning has been a star batting in singles and doubles. Cheyenne Weigand inflicted two strikers and scored 10.
