Bronx, New York (WABC) – Members of the New York LGBTQ + community were able to showcase their Irish heritage on Sunday.

The Throggs Neck parade on St. Patrick’s Day in the Bronx for the first time this year included an LGBTQ + group.

The Alliance of lavender and greenwhich was founded in 1994, was created to give queer Irish people a place to celebrate their heritage in the LGBTQ community.

Recently, the alliance was denied a march at a parade in Staten Island, which refused to allow any LGBTQ groups.

On Saturday, members of the alliance said they were happy to celebrate their immigrant history and legacy.

The parade began around noon from East Tremont Avenue and Lafayette Avenue.
