Lacey Mayor Nicolas Giuliano died this morning after a brief battle with highly aggressive cancer. He was 63 years old.
“Nick was an integral part of the township and deeply cared for his community,” the township said on its website.
Republican Julian was elected to the township committee in 2014, defeating Democrat Gregory Punch with 61% of the vote in the fight for an open seat. He won 65% in his re-election bid in 2017 from Democrat Jesse Ernstrom and 71% from Democrat Bill Stamm in 2020.
He served as Deputy Mayor in 2017 and 2021 and Mayor in 2018 and 2022.
“Mayor Julian was a man of great character. He was a kind, talkative man who wanted to help his community. Everyone admired and loved many. He worked tirelessly for the benefit of his constituents. He praised local community groups, veterans’ organizations and ambulance teams for their devotion to Lacey, ”the municipality said in a statement. “Mayor Julian valued the men and women of city offices and departments and brought up the best in everyone.”
Juliana owned an auto parts store for 40 years and later became an operations manager at Spirits Unlimited.
The screening will take place on Friday, March, from 2pm to 7pm and 7pm to 8pm and again on Saturday at 10am at Riggs Funeral Home in Forkid River. Julian’s family has asked to contribute instead of flowers to Popcorn Park in memory of the late mayor.
The flags will be hoisted in the town of Lacey until Sunday.
“Politicians and politicians everywhere are getting bad rap; but for people who think I would like them to meet Nick Julian. A good and decent man who always greeted me with a smile and an encouraging word, ”said Republican political consultant Chris Russell. “The last time I saw him I had the opportunity to talk to him in recent days Jack Chattarelli company outside of Kafra in his beloved Lacey. He was pumped up. I could never have guessed that he was ill or would be gone in a few months. “
Juliana is the second mayor to die in his last three days.
Winslow Mayor Barry Wright died Sunday at the age of 69, less than a month after he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
