Tom Keane Jr. won the Republican organizational line in Maurice County, winning the second round of elections with 88 votes to 42 over John Henry Eisman in his candidacy from the Republican Party in Congress in New Jersey’s 7th constituency.
The winner of the republican primaries of the seven candidates will meet with MP Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) for two terms in the constituency that was redesigned for the 2022 by-elections to become more Republican. In 2020, Keane did not remove Malinowski from office within one percentage point.
Keane, a former minority leader in the New Jersey Senate, has now secured organizational lines in Hunterdan, Union and Morris counties and the approval of the Republican Organization of Warren County. Somerset County Republicans will hold their convention next week.
He won with 67.7% -32.3%. Keane received 40 votes more this week than last week, and Izeman scored just six.
The second round came after the first vote last week, where Keane led Eisman with 12 votes, 48 ​​against 36, with 23 votes for MP Eric Peterson (R-Franklin) and 20 for Phil Ritz, a former pastor, developer and gubernatorial candidate.
Three other candidates – salon owner Robert Trugman, U.S. Navy veteran Sterling Irwin Schwab and licensed public works contractor Kevin Dorlon – did not attend the Morris Convention.
Problems with voting machines – and the subsequent departure of constituency committee members who did not pass after the first vote – led to problems with voting last week. Party officials ended Maurice GOP’s congress around 12:15 a.m. Saturday, more than six hours after the meeting began.
Keane won the Hunterdan line by seven votes, 67 to 60, to Peterson, a Hunterdan resident, during the second ballot last month. In the first ballot, Keane’s advantage was much greater, and Peterson received 79 votes to 54 (46% -32%).
Izeman, the 28-year-old candidate, the first candidate, received an impressive 35 votes in the first ballot in Hunterdan. Two Republicans voted for Trugman.
On Wednesday night, Keane won 89% of the vote in the Union against Isenman.
Ritz missed Hunterdon and Union, and Peterson did not participate in Union.
