NEW YORK (AP) — Hannah Waddingham wore Dolce & Gabbana with sparkly high-top sneakers and Elle Fanning stepped out in Old Hollywood in a dress designed by Sharon Long from her show “The Great” on Monday as glamor returned on Amy in the sticky humidity of Los Angeles.
Ted Lasso’s Waddingham showed off her comfy white pumps under a strapless pink corset. Fanning, with her hair swept back, said she wanted to honor the creators of her show, which won her her first Emmy. Fanning’s look was black and pink, emblazoned across the chest.
“I’ve always been inspired by the glamor of ’50s old Hollywood,” Fanning said.
Sheryl Lee Ralph from Abbott Elementary made a fashion faux pas before arriving at the Emmy Awards.

“The designer gave me and my colleague the same dress sketch,” she said, revealing it on set when Lisa Ann Walter showed Ralph what she wore to the award.
“I didn’t have a dress until five days ago, so Brandon Blackwood came up. He was in Japan and started making the dress on his Pacific flight,” Ralph said.
Ralph was resplendent in a black velvet strapless dress with an orange spod and slit on her thigh. She was carrying a tiny orange purse.
Zendaya, who worked with her stylist Lo Roach, wore a classic black strapless corset with a full skirt and a dainty bow at the waist. It was Valentine’s and she was decked out in Bulgari jewels, including a fresh young white diamond choker with a 4.45 carat center stone. She also had pockets.
Connie Britton wore a soft pink Monique Lhuillier goddess gown with a cape effect back. Severance’s Britt Lauer wore a Venetian gold beaded gown and matching elbow length gloves. The top featured cutouts and thin, embellished straps.
“It felt like I wanted to dress up in space. I really appreciate fabrics, my mom was a home economics teacher. “I feel great in it,” Lower told the Associated Press.
People’s style and beauty director Andrea Lavinthal said pink carried the night, though plenty of other colors lit up the carpet.
“Pink seems to continue to dominate as the color of choice on the red carpet. There are just a lot of stars going for different shades of pink,” she said.
Not Rachel Brosnahan. She stood out in a beautiful purple Pamella Roland column dress. It was embellished with tulle and pearl appliqués with floral bows from the designer’s Fall 2022 collection.
Laverne Cox and Himesh Patel helped kick off the fashion show, she in a striking Jean Paul Gaultier Couture black mini and he in a white printed tuxedo jacket, eschewing the usual evening black. Royal blue on Sarah Thompson (author of Yellow Jackets), marigold yellow and more, color took over the night.
“I’m quite warm, I’m in threes. I like the suit, but I wasn’t expecting this much heat,” said Patel.
Natasha Rothwell of White Lotus chose red for a dress with short balloon sleeves and a popular item on the fashion carpets – pockets! It was custom silk taffeta from Sofia. Megan Stalter also chose red in a sheer dress that accentuated her curves. Severance’s Jen Tullack was in the red zone in a thigh-high slit with structured sleeves by Thierry Mugler, accessorized with pearl earrings.
“I’m such a fan of his line. It’s elegant, but still has a sense of humor,” Talak said.
Stalter from “Hakav” was in burnt velvet by Norma Kamali. She had an artificial red rose pinned between her breasts.
“I lost my breath and my words. This is some kind of sexy dress. It’s wild like me,” she said.
Jung Ho-yeon, the it-girl and Louis Vuitton ambassador for ‘Squid Game’, donned the brand’s colorful figure-hugging figure. It was custom made in a tweed design with sequins all over. Her jewels were also Vuitton.
“I still can’t believe it. It doesn’t make sense yet, but I’m just going to enjoy the day and cherish the moment,” she said of her nomination.
Reese Witherspoon opted for a blue glitter with blue sparkles worthy of sunglasses. Around her neck was a striking aquamarine, blue zircon and diamond choker from Tiffany & Co. Amanda Seyfried wore pink huggies by Armani Prive paired with Cartier platinum diamond earrings.
“I’m a mermaid today,” Seyfried said.
Another refreshing surprise for Lavinthal? Men ditching black for all-white tuxedos, including Legacy’s Nicholas Brown in a Christian Dior double-breasted tuxedo. Andrew Garfield also chose white along with Seth Rogan. Speaking of white, Jean Smart also went for it with an elegant collar that fell over one shoulder. Ellie Saab designed a short draped Kerry Washington dress with a long top skirt and a flourish of organza lilies on one shoulder.
Washington’s black tights caused a little damage. So did Kaley Cuoco’s Dolce & Gabbana tutus and Julia Garner’s Gucci belly button cut in her dark brown velvet look with silver crystals.
“I thought we’d seen all kinds of cuts on the red carpet, but the belly button cut was something new,” Lavinthal said.
Among Lavinthal’s highlights was Lily James in copper Versace.
“It was very 2022, but it could have been straight off a ’90s runway with chainmail and sculpted cups,” she said.
Smart’s dress was made by Christian Siriano, as was Laura Linney’s white look.
Robin Tede also wore Siriano in a gorgeous pastel blue, while Jarrod Carmichael donned a long white fox fur coat. Carmichael laughed at the heat and humidity.
“It was Puff Daddy’s coat. He wore it in the video,” the Saturday Night Live comic said.
Carmichael was shirtless under a fur coat and wore a platinum sunburst necklace. His black satin pants were accentuated by a white underwear top that peeked out. He was sockless in his black loafers.
Another Siriano fan? Melanie Lynskey of the Yellow Jackets. Hers was mint green with a sheer overlay that made her feel “half princess and half badass (expletive).” She said of the designer: “He is the sweetest man in the world and I adore him. I feel that he did something for me, for my body.”
Rachel Tashjian, director of fashion news at Harper’s Bazaar, saw another trend.
“The stunning looks on this year’s red carpet heralded a turning point in celebrity style hinted at at the recent Venice Film Festival: the craziest, loudest outfit is no longer the best. Instead, stars gravitate toward true elegance, even classicism,” she said.
She pointed to Zendaya, who often takes risks.
“Here she was in a very traditional strapless Valentino gown with the bouncy hairdo of a late 1950s socialite,” Tashjian said.
Likewise, Fanning was in a “very classic 1950s couture dress with an old-school hairdo.” she said.
Another highlight of hers was Issa Rae in a form-fitting, flattering look by Sergio Hudson, who walked his runway on Sunday. But her absolute favorite was Lizzo in her “gorgeous red Giambattista Valli dress—a sophisticated, glamorous statement that dazzles.”
Other standouts included Ariana DeBose at Atelier Prabal Gurung. It was a lilac hand draped silk chiffon with a cape.
Jodi Kahn, vice president of luxury fashion at Nieman Marcus, said that pink — in its many shades — is something that draws her customers and that they can easily wear.
“Pink is a universally flattering color in which women can feel very beautiful, confident and happy. That’s something we’ve noticed especially with our customers,” she said. “It’s great for any skin tone, any body type.”
Metallics, too, like James’s, and Dolce & Gabbana’s custom-made red by Quinto Brunson, are another draw for Cannes customers.
“Specifically, the textured metallic,” she said. “It’s something you can take very easily from the red carpet to everyday life for an occasion or a night out.”
Euphoria’s Coleman Domingo was already a winner when he hit the mat. He earned an Emmy for guest actor in a drama series at an earlier creative awards ceremony.
“I celebrated all week to the point where I had to wake up and take a couple of ibuprofen,” he said.
Domingo wore an open jacket made of gold brocade and trousers to match.
“I want to feel like a king,” he said.
Domingo wore a battery-powered fan studded with platinum spikes to ward off the intense humidity unusual in Los Angeles.
Stylist Holly Katz, host of the Fashion Crimes podcast, named Washington — black stockings and all — her best dressed.
“She killed him,” Katz said.
Katz called Waddingham’s sneakers “the best kept fashion secret of the evening!”
Mark Indelicato was in the red club, sort of. Indelicato’s hair was bright red and his black tuxedo had long split tails that resembled a plume. And more men? Ted Lasso’s Phil Dunster opted for a burgundy tuxedo with black lapels, while his Lasso co-star Brett Goldstein opted for black.
Emily Heller, meanwhile, went in a different direction. The back of her short floral dress had the words “Hit Me” written on it, and one shoe had a piece of toilet paper stuck to it.
