In a statement, Joseph Petit and Nicole Schmidt claim that Landry “advised his parents … that he killed Gabriel Petit” around August 28, 2021, the day after Petit’s death.
According to the lawsuit, they are demanding that Christopher and Roberta Landry compensate for the loss of more than $ 30,000, excluding interest, costs and attorneys.
“As I have argued for the past few months, the laundries have not publicly commented on my indication that they are entitled under the law,” said Landry’s family lawyer Stephen Bertalina. “If we come to the conclusion that everything Petit claims in his lawsuit is true, which we deny, this lawsuit does not change the fact that the laundries had no obligation to speak to law enforcement or any third party, including Petit’s family. This fundamental legal principle provides for Petit’s claims of unfoundedness in accordance with the law. “

The lawsuit was filed in Sarasota County and accuses Robert Landry of blocking Schmidt on her cell phone and Facebook during the investigation.
It also alleges that Landry’s parents knew that their son had killed Gabi when they issued a statement stating that they hoped the search was successful and that she had returned home safely.
The lawsuit alleges the laundry refused to respond or cooperate with authorities, and alleges that they kept Brian’s whereabouts secret by arranging for him to leave the country.
Petit and Schmidt accused the laundries of acting with malice or great indifference, as well as of extreme and outrageous behavior that “goes beyond all possible decency and is seen as shocking, brutal and utterly unbearable in a civilized community,” the statement said. .
“As a direct and approximate result of the arbitrariness and malice of Christopher Landry and Roberta Landry, Joseph Petit and Nicole Schmidt were forced to endure pain and suffering, mental anguish, inconvenience, loss of ability to enjoy life experienced in the past – to be past and future.” claimed in the lawsuit.
In October, the skeletal remains of Brian Landry were found in the Carlton Preserve in Sarasota County, and his death was considered a suicide.
He was the target of a hunt that lasted several weeks when his body was found, and the FBI said he claimed responsibility for Petite’s murder in a notebook found near his body.
Petit’s remains were found in Wyoming on Sept. 19, a month after she disappeared while traveling from Landra.
Coroner determined that she had died about three weeks earlier from “blunt head and neck injuries with manual suffocation.”
The couple documented their trip on Instagram, and on August 12, they were stopped by police in Moab, Utah, after they got into a fight.
A police video showed Petit describing a fight that escalated, and they concluded that Petit was the aggressor, but decided to separate them for the night rather than press charges.
