A Florida a man was fatally shot in his home during a collision with police officers after they responded to a call for domestic violence, officials said.

Margate police officers were sent to the home of an unidentified man on Sunday morning, where they found he was strangling a woman, WSVN reports. Seeing allegedly assaultan officer fired on the house, killing the man fatally, police said.

The man was taken to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

The woman told staff she feared for her life and the lives of her child. They were both taken to the North-West Medical Center, where they were treated for minor injuries, according to the CSR. reported.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is reportedly investigating the incident, and the officer who pulled the trigger was placed on administrative leave, officials said.
