Two New Jersey senators from Manmouth County, Republican Declan O’Scanlan (R-Little Silver) and Vin Gopal (D-Long Branch), guests hosted a New Jersey Globe Power Hour on Talk Radio 77 WABC on Saturday, February 19th. at 4 PM, and David Wildstein took the weekend off.

O’Scanlon and Gopal were joined by former state senator Joseph Cyril (R-Middletown) and New Jersey Globe political reporter Joey Fox.

O’Scanlan is a Republican member of the New Jersey Senate. He served five terms in the New Jersey State Assembly before winning the 2017 Senate election, representing the 13th Legislature. He was re-elected in 2021. Prior to his election to the legislature, O’Scanlan was a member of the Little Silver District Council.

Gopal, a Democrat, is the leader of the Senate Majority Conference and chairman of the Senate Education Committee. He was elected to the Senate in 2017, defeating the incumbent president, who holds three terms, and won a seat in the Senate of the 11th Legislative District. Last year he won a second term. Gopal is a former chairman of the Monmouth County Democratic Party.

Cyril served in the New Jersey State Assembly from 1988 to 1992 and in the State Senate from 1992 to 2018, when his retirement paved the way for O’Scanlan’s election. He is a former chairman of the Republican state of New Jersey and was a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2012.

Fox is a New Jersey Globe staff reporter. He graduated from Williams College, where he was editor-in-chief of Williams Record, and previously worked as an intern for reports at the Gotham Gazette. While at Record, Fox received the Society of Professional Journalists Award for Best Artistic Screenplay (Northeast) and was a finalist for the National Award. His hobby, which is now very similar to his real job, is to create Wikipedia pages for elected officials and state legislatures.
