Former MP Jack Chattarelli, who nearly defeated Gov. Phil Murphy in last year’s gubernatorial election, backed Tom Keane Jr. for his Republican nomination to Congress in New Jersey’s 7th constituency.
Chatarelli’s approval comes three days before Republicans in his home county of Somerset are set to meet to reward their organizational line. As a member of the Hillsborough County Committee, Chattarelli says the convention will vote for Keane, a former minority leader in the New Jersey Senate.
“The goal of the election is to win. With this single goal in mind, I will vote for Tom Keane Jr. in New Jersey’s 7th constituency, as he is arguably the best candidate in this race to abolish this seat. ” said Chattarelli, the party standard. carrier. “Two years ago, under incredibly difficult circumstances, Tom defeated the incumbent president by 1 percent. Knowing his name, ability to raise money and an experienced political team are all unique to his candidacy and are the most important attributes for winning this election. “
Chatarelli says he knows and respects all the candidates – he worked in the legislature with MP Eric Peterson (R-Franklin) and ran against Phil Reese in the Republican primaries last year.
“All of them have the best interests of the district in their hearts,” Chatareli said. “But Tom is in an absolutely better position to overthrow Tom Malinowski, return our party’s chair and bring some mainstream, common sense to Washington.”
Chatareli has been declared a candidate for governor in 2025.
