The President Joe Biden called Vladimir Putin “war criminal” on Wednesday a few hours after the president of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky appealed to the US Congress for additional assistance in the fight against Russian forces that invaded his country.
Initially, the president said no when Fox News reporter Jacques Henry asked if he thought Putin was a war criminal, but 30 seconds later he turned away and said, “You asked me if I would call … Oh, I, I think he’s military the criminal ”.
Earlier in the day, Biden was convicted Russian invasion and said the United States was sending more weapons to Ukraine, including anti-aircraft, anti-armor weapons, body armor, guns and drones.
“Putin is inflicting horrible, horrible devastation and horror Ukraine, bombing of houses, maternity wards, hospitals. I mean, it’s awful, “Biden said.” The world is united in our support for Ukraine and our determination to make Putin pay a very high price. “

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said at the briefing that the president’s remarks “speak for themselves”, but the “legal process” is still ongoing at the State Department.
“He spoke from the heart and spoke from what we saw on television, which is the barbaric actions of a brutal dictator through his invasion of a foreign country,” Psaki said.

Until Wednesday, Biden resisted calling the Russian president a war criminal, even though several lawmakers called for Putin to be investigated for war crimes.
On Tuesday night, the US Senate unanimously approved a measure to investigate Putin and other Russian officials for “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity.”
Russian troops attacked a theater in Mariupol on Wednesday, where “hundreds of innocent civilians were buried,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said.
“Now the building is completely destroyed. The Russians couldn’t help but know that it was a civilian shelter, ”Kuleba wrote on Twitter. “Save Mariupol! Stop Russian war criminals!”

Russian forces were also accused of using it cluster munitions and vacuum bombs into a war that violates international law.
About 700 civilians have been killed since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, but the United Nations says the actual number is probably much higher.

In a public address to Congress on Wednesday, Zelensky showed visuals of the casualties and destruction inflicted by Russian troops on his country.
“We need you right now,” Zelensky told lawmakers. “I urge you to do more.”
Earlier this month, the International Criminal Court said it was launching an investigation into Putin’s potential war crimes during his invasion of Ukraine.
