NEW YORK — Thousands of customers seeking to purchase goods on Amazon early Wednesday encountered an error message on the e-commerce site’s checkout page, a rare problem for the platform, which has become even more of a shopping hub for countless families during the pandemic.
As of 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, there were more than 9,000 user reports of problems with Amazon.com, according to the outage-tracking site DownDetector. According to DownDetector, the most frequently reported issue was related to site verification.
Some customers who have tried to place an order on the site have seen the following error message: “An error occurred while we were trying to process your request. Rest assured, we are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. If you tried to make a purchase, please , please check your account to confirm that the order has been placed. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
“We’re very sorry that some customers may be experiencing issues while shopping,” Betsy Harden, an Amazon spokeswoman, said in a statement provided to CNN Business on Wednesday morning. “We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve the issue.”
Just after 10 a.m. ET, the number of problem reports on DownDetector rose to more than 14,000, although the number of new reports appeared to be leveling off.
