At least 14 shots were tested in each period.

“They score a lot of goals,” said Georgiev. “The first period was important in order to keep them at zero … It’s certainly a team relegation.”

Frank Vatrana added a goal to the empty net 41.3 seconds before the game to win the Rangers.

Combined with a winning goal in the last minute on Saturday night in Tampa Bay it was a pretty 24-hour gap for the Rangers.

“I think we showed what it takes to win,” Vatrana said.

The defeat sent the Hurricanes into the first of four games of the season (0-3-1). It also marked the end of a series of 14 games on home points that fell short of the franchise record.

Frederick Andersen has stopped 16 shots for the Hurricanes, which were scored for the third time this season.

“We had too many good chances not to kill,” said Hurricane center Sebastian Aho.

Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour has said his team has played well enough to win three of the last four games. Especially it was Sunday.

“It was probably one of our best games of the year,” Brind’Amour said. “Their goalkeeper played great, and that’s the end of the story.”

The Rangers have won four of their last five games. This last success was a struggle.

“We are lucky,” said coach Gerard Galant. “We were a tired hockey team. They were with us. They dominated, but we found a way to get two points.”

Crader scored his 41st goal for the team at 4:39 p.m. He has scored in three of his last four games and has seven goals in 10 games in March.

The Rangers have made just 10 shots in two periods, while the Hurricanes have scored 29 goals without a goal.

GOOD WITH YOU

Vatrana was in his third game with the Rangers after trading with the Florida Panthers. The goal became his first point in the new team.

– They are all considered, right? he said of the empty net. “I’ll take that … I’m glad I can make a deal for the boys.”

THE WAY TO SUCCESS

The Rangers have played in 34 away games, more than any NHL team this season. Im 20-12-2.

This result gave them the first winning streak of three games after a segment that ended in mid-December.

ONLY BY MYSELF

Carolina defender Tony DeAngelo has returned to the squad after an 11-game absence due to an upper body injury. After arriving with the Rangers in his first season at the Hurricanes. He had three points in a win over his former team in January.
