PISCATAWAY, NEW JERSEY (WABC) – Two firefighters were injured while battling a large fire raging at the PepsiCo factory in Piscateuei, New Jersey.

According to police, the fire started shortly after 6.30pm and spread to the fifth alarm.

According to initial reports, several propane cylinders could have exploded, leading to an increase in flames.

Witnesses say they heard heavy blows from the scene.

It was like a good seven or eight loud sounds, I thought, “what’s going on,” I see all this fire, this explosion and all, all this smoke coming from the sky – for me it was very strange, I never saw so much black smoke, so thick smoke in the sky, ”said eyewitness Jamel Davis.

Piscateu Mayor Brian Waller told Eyewitness News reporter Josh Einiger that two firefighters were injured while fighting the blaze. One received heat exhaustion and the other injured his shoulder, but the injuries were not considered serious.

When you arrived at the scene, you saw a full fire, you say well “what’s going on here”, as soon as they determined that there was nothing that could harm the firefighters, they rearranged the four stair towers that are pouring water right now – it will continue to pour water all night on this structure, ”Valery said.

Police say there were no signs of the structure collapsing.

There were Red Cross volunteers on the scene, who provided services to rescuers who worked to extinguish the fire.
