The remaining backpack in the basket led to charges of illegal possession of weapons and possession of stolen property against a 74-year-old man from East Windsor, according to the East Windsor City Police Department.
A police officer was sent to the Wal-Mart store on Route 130 to investigate a bag that was found in a basket on March 13th.
When an officer inspected the backpack, trying to identify its owner, the officer allegedly found a gun in the backpack. An investigation revealed the gun was stolen, police said.
The officer contacted the owner of the backpack, who was detained. The man was charged and released for trial.
