LINDEN – Firefighters battled a three-alarm fire overnight at a Shoprite food preparation business near Routes 1 and 9.
According to Linden police, the fire started at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday in the kitchen area of World Class Kitchens, located at 1911 Pennsylvania Ave.
The building was occupied when the fire started and all employees were safely evacuated, police said.
One of the workers was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to a local hospital, police said.
The Linden Fire Department, with assistance from several Union County mutual aid departments, was able to contain the fire to one structure, police said.
Parts of Park, Linden and Elizabeth avenues, as well as other surrounding streets, were closed during the morning rush hour.
Rescuers are expected to remain at the scene for several more hours.
