WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (WPVI) – A kidnapping suspect who abducted a mother and her child in Virginia was tracked down to a Walmart in Pennsylvania, where police responded.

Wilkes-Barre Township police said they were contacted Tuesday by Virginia investigators about a woman and her child who had been abducted.

According to authorities, the suspect used a weapon and drove them to Pennsylvania.

Virginia investigators told Wilkes-Barre police they received information that the suspect and two victims were at a Walmart in their Pennsylvania town.

Wilkes-Barre Police officers responded to the store.

Police say detectives went into the store and found the suspect. As the suspect walked away from the victims, officers approached and took him into custody without incident.

Police say the baby and mother were found safe and sound.

The suspect was arraigned and transported to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility to await extradition to Virginia.

Wilkes-Barre police have not released further details about the abduction.

Authorities say several shoppers contacted Walmart management to report an active shooter or someone running around the store with a gun.

Wilkes-Barre police say there was no active shooter or gunman inside the Walmart.
