• Monmouth County The Park System will present the Nature Lecture Series: The Real Story of Captain Kidd and His Treasure on February 16 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Bayshore Waterfront Park Activity Center, Middletown. • Monmouth County The Monmouth County Backyard Bird Count will be held Feb. 17 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center, Howell, Park System; Feb. 18 from 9-10 a.m. at Freno Woods Park Visitor Center, Aberdeen Township; and Feb. 19 from 9-10 a.m. at Huber Woods Park Environmental Center, Middletown. Join park system naturalists for the Great American Backyard Bird Count celebration and see what winter birds are at local bird feeders. • Partnership for a Drug Free New Jersey invites New Jersey high school students to create original music with substance abuse prevention messages as part of the Your Song! 2023! Your voice! Shout Down Drugs New Jersey Music Competition. The contest is open to any type of music and any style. Applications are accepted until March 5. Students who want to share their musical talent can submit original music with substance abuse prevention lyrics. • Dove Hospice Services New Jersey is looking for volunteers who want to make a difference for people facing end-of-life issues. Volunteers dedicate a small amount of time each month to provide friendly visits; play cards; sewing, knitting or craft projects; musical enrichment; pet therapy; and office or administrative assistance. Dove Hospice Services is also seeking veterans who are interested in providing compassion, support and outreach to fellow veterans and their families. You can visit people who live in private houses.
