It is almost a given that Trey Lance, the third overall pick of 2021 San Francisco 49erswill correspond in week 1 to lead the crime.
The waiting step rests on its predecessor, Jimmy Garopolowhich is expected to be sold sooner rather than later. At least, we thought so.
ESPN NFL reporter Adam Shefter appeared on Ari Meirov NFL Show discuss the Niners plan with juggling Garapalo and Lance in the offseason. According to Schaeffer, it is not yet expected that Garoppolo will be drastic based on their current assessment of Lance’s development.
“I’m just telling you that Trey Lance was probably further than people realized.”
Schaeffer then delved into the gaps in Lance’s resume that could justify any rust or sluggish development.
“Tray Lance is more environmentally friendly than people realize. Tray Lance will need more work than people realize, and they have a list that can win now. …
“Two years ago, he did not play football college at all,” said Shefter. “He comes from a small school [North Dakota State] for a start and there is a steep learning curve for such a quarterback who has blessed many talents that they are still very high. ”
Taking a step back rather than posting Garapalo, 49ers general manager John Lynch may be holding on to veteran QB over his participant until Lance really jumps off the screen.
“So you’re better off playing the season with Jimmy, getting Trey the training he still needs, or are you better off changing it?”
All bets are on that Niners will send Garapalo to a new home after Lynch admitted that the team is looking for a suitable, new approach for Jimmy G. His ban on trade expires on March 16.
Lance started two games last season and competed in six competitions. He threw 603 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions – 57.7 percent of his shots.
