As the third period progressed, it seemed that the Hopewell Valley / Montgomery cooperative was checking every shift.

HV / M withstood the challenge of Ocean Twp. tri-op and won in overtime 3-2 on Monday to advance to the second round of the public tournament Public C.

“I was proud of how we reacted to the adversity,” said HV / M coach Jeff Radis. “We knew they were going to throw us everything they had in the third period, but we knew we had to keep playing our game.”

Hopewell Valley / Montgomery (10-9-2), number 21, will meet with Governor No. 2 seed Livingston (14-6-1).

The game is scheduled for 8:35 p.m. Wednesday at the Warinanco Skating Center.

This is Hopewell Valley’s first trip to the second round since 2010, when it reached the Public B final.

“Guer Livingston is no wonder the two seeds,” Radis said. “We have to play our most disciplined hockey to be with them.”

The Governor of Livingston is a cooperative with New Providence, and after the start of the season 10-2-1 with a quick start it was 4-4.

“A quick turn, we hope, will allow us to maintain momentum,” Radis said.

HV / M is led by Mike Boyer with 17 goals and nine assists, Beck has 12 goals and nine assists, and Lucas Geisert has 25 assists with 11 goals.

Ryan Morichi has 91.6 percent retention in the networks.

The Governor of Livingston / New Providence leads Brain Kramer with 19 goals and 17 assists, and Matthew Wallen has 17 assists and 6 goals.

Shane Cook ranks in front of the goal and has a 92.5 percent save.

Hopewell Valley / Montgomery just might be playing their best hockey at the right time of year.
