PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Following the success of last year’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid, a brand new sequel is coming to Disney+ on Friday.

Diary of a Weasel: Rodrick’s Rules,” based on the second book in the series.

Our Alicia Vittorelli had the opportunity to speak with author Jeff Kinney, who created the series 15 years ago.

He says he feels very honored to watch the fans grow.

“I think it’s because the characters are messy,” Kinney says. “I think Greg is not a desirable character, he’s full of flaws, just like I was as a kid. I think it’s nice to read about a character like that who doesn’t always do the right thing, who struggles. that’s why the stories worked and continued for a while.”

In this sequel, we delve into the rivalry between Greg and his older brother, Rodrick.

Kinney explains how he created these characters and this world.

“The push came from failure,” Kinney says. “I wanted to be a cartoonist in newspapers, but no one liked my work. I needed to find a way to get my cartoons seen somewhere. And so I wrote them in a book. Fortunately, there was an appetite for it and it worked.”

The fact that he’s now made two movies for Disney+?

“It’s a privilege,” Kinney says.

Disney is the parent company of 6abc.
