FAIRFIELD SCOUTS: Jay Young’s Stags have won four straight to move into the top half of the MAAC, including a win over top-ranked Siena in which they overcame a 1-for-22 start. … Fairfield makes a lot of 3-pointers (21.9 per game) , but doesn’t make as many of them (5.9 3s per contest). That’s an average of 28.3% from beyond the arc, which ranks 10th in the MAAC. In fact, only Rider is making fewer 3s per game than the Stags and Broncs have attempted with 284 treys in the league. … That said, Fairfield has players who could get hot. TJ Long, a lefty who shoots as soon as he touches it, made six 3s against Rider in this matchup last season. Both Long (30/1%) and Jake Wojciech (20.5%) are well below what they are capable of after shooting 40.3% and 34.5% from 3s last season, respectively. … While the Stags struggled to shoot the 3, they defended it better than anyone in the league. They lead the MAAC in 3-point field goal percentage defense (29/7%) and scoring defense (63.8 ppg). … Point guard Caleb Fields (12.2 ppg) has been a nice addition and big man Supreme Cook (13 ppg, 8.6 rpg) is having a strong season.
