In an attempt to stop illegal immigration The UK Government blocks migrants’ access to bank accounts, rental housing, and their driver’s licenses, among other services.

Countries Minister of ImmigrationRobert Jerrick, is leading a new taskforce to ensure that “only those who are eligible can work, get benefits or access the public service”, according to The Telegraph.

“We’re making good on our promise to increase raids on illegal employers: new task force will ensure only those eligible can work, access government services and benefits,” Jerrick tweeted Sunday.

The new initiative will include a 50% increase in immigration visits to construction sites, car washes and gig economy firm.

In recent months, the government has already increased the presence of law enforcement agencies. There have been more than 1,150 such visits – a 10% increase – since mid-December, according to Telegraph. This amounts to about 362 arrestees.

Jerrick argued that black market work harms communities by “defrauding honest workers, putting vulnerable people at risk and stealing the public purse”, he said.

“Our immigration departments are working around the clock to bring those who break our laws to justice. Our first priority is to crack down on this crime and give law enforcement agencies the ability to remove illegal migrants,” he said.
